The Stanton Guildhouse is a charitable Trust created in the 1960s by Mary Osborn who dedicated her life to the promotion of learning, creativity and personal development.

Continuing in this artistic tradition, the Guildhouse provides courses and summer schools in arts and crafts. the Guildhouse provides nationally renown courses and summer schools in the arts and crafts tradition.

Stanton Guildhouse holds a series of diverse events throughout the year – these include literary readings, musical evenings, art exhibitions and courses on motivational speaking. We also hold monthly quiet days at the house.

All events are popular and well-attended so prior booking is a must. 

Beginners and experienced alike can come and relax and work side by side. We have created an environment where it is possible to meet new people, learn and exchange ideas, explore different artistic styles - modern and abstract, and at the same time be inspired by the ambience and the beauty of this exceptional and unique place.

NB: Students are expected to help tidy the workshop after all courses.

WOOD TURNING

A wonderfully creative, expressive and precise art.

Coaching for traditional and abstract forms. Come and learn and work with natural woods alongside experienced tutors. Teaching includes care of chisels and the sharpening of tools.

Learn fundamental woodcarving techniques such as

● Chip carving, relief carving, and shaping. Develop skills in using carving tools effectively.

● Gain insights into the characteristics of different wood types and learn how to work with the natural grain. Understand the impact of wood grain on carving design and execution.

● Take a project from concept to completion. Learn the process of designing, planning, and executing a woodcarving, including finishing touches andsurface treatments.

WOOD CARVING

Designed for anyone who would like to learn a new skill or develop an existing one.

Beginning with line drawing using pencil, graphite and charcoal, exploring shade, tone, perspective and composition. Progressing to colour, using pastels, watercolours pencils, acrylics and ink...working in still life, portraiture and landscape.

WATERCOLOURS

Coiling, slab building, throwing on the wheel, glazes and firing in our own kiln.

Beginners are welcome. Get stuck in and grasp the undoubtedly therapeutic aspects of handling the clay and working the artistry of glazes.

POTTERY

The fused glass course is suitable for both beginners or those wishing to further develop their glass fusing skills.

The atmosphere is friendly, supportive and very studious. Equipment and materials are easily accessible and you will be guided on how to safely use these whilst also being inspired to realise your own true creative potential.

Items you could create include small trinket or soap dishes, coasters, sun catchers or candle holders, larger bowls or platters, clocks, cake stands, lanterns, jewellery, greeting cards, drink stirrers and a wide selection of seasonal decorations.

Materials can be purchased from the tutor, you will be given a price list so that you can accommodate your own personal budget.

● How to cut and laver sheet & accessorize glass

● Use different metal wires and foils, create bubbles within glass,

● Paint & print with mica powders, create embossed texture using kiln carving,

● Make freeze & fuse 3d shapes, create patterns with stencils and silk screens and create fused glass pieces including soap or trinket dishes, larger platters, clocks, free-standing panels, jewellery, items for the garden, coasters, sun catchers and draped candle holders etc.

If you wish to learn a new skill in beautiful surroundings this is the perfect course.
