Heritage
The house was built in the sixties, in the Arts and Crafts tradition and in the design of a country manor, from reclaimed Cotswold stone, former flagstones from the streets of London and beams from oaks on the Blenheim Palace Estate. The interior of the house features many examples of fine crafstmanship.
The house is associated with many illustrious supporters of Mary Osborn's work at Stanton including Mahatma Gandhi, John Betjeman, Flora Robson, J. B. Priestly and Enid Blyton.
The Guildhouse has been a place of inspiration for these people and for the many others who have visited and stayed in the house. It is still inspiring new visitors and guests from all walks of life today.
Andrew Mawson, founder and president of Bromley by Bow Centre, took responsibility for the future development of the Stanton Guildhouse in 1996. The Bromley By Bow Centre is one of the United Kingdom's leading social enterprises and has built, the first Healthy Living Centre, in Britain. www.bbbc.org.uk |
Social Enterprise
Since 1997 Stanton Guildhouse has become a fully-fledged social enterprise run on business principles with a clear social purpose. The Trust reinvests any profit into community support and social entrepreneurial activity to improve the quality of life for those in the inner city and the countryside.
