Woodturning classes for beginners, intermediates and advanced learners are held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday

Furniture Making and/or furniture restoration courses are also available on Tuesday and Wednesday.

EVENING CLASSES for woodturning with Mike are held on Mondays for beginners and intermediates and on Tuesday for intermediates.  Wood working classes are held on Tuesday evenings for both beginners and intermediates.  Documentation for both courses will provide a source of information for you to refer to as and when required.  Detailed written instructions for some of the projects will also be given for future reference.

The beginners class on a Monday will take you through a specific range of projects which will ensure that you learn in a structured way, with each project introducing new techniques, skills and tools.

The intermediate courses on either a Monday or Tuesday will enable you to learn more advanced techniques and provide you with assistance in tackling your own projects.

Students in all three disciplines (turning/making/restoration) are provided with workshop manuals and projects sheets to supplement hand-on instruction.  For both woodturning and furniture students there are 6 sets of basic woodturning tools plus a range of general hand tools.  It is not necessary to have your own tools or equipment before learning to turn, make or restore furniture.  A bench grinder is available for sharpening.

FACILITIES The purpose built workshop has 8 lathes, two of which can run at slow speeds for more specialist work.  The separate machine room has a large bandsaw, a planner thicknesser, a floor standing pillar drill, a cross cut saw, a router table and a large belt sander.  Training and supervision will be provided as required.  A comprehensive range of hand tools are also available.

You will be expected to provide your own wood, however, advice on supply will be given and we may be able to provide some timber if you have problems with sourcing your own.

A range of books and videos are available to borrow.

All courses will provide you with information on selecting the right tools and equipment for your own workshop.

For further information, availability and course fees please contact Stanton Guildhouse.
